Reduce resolution of embedded GIF/video file & replace on canvas

The export process may slow down significantly or stall altogether if design includes an embedded GIF/video with a resolution above 1080p (1920x1080).

🔍 How to check

Figma doesn't provide the option to check GIF/video file size in the design environment. The best way to check is to open the folder containing the file on your local machine, and viewing the properties of the file there.

🔧 How to fix

To reduce the resolution of an embedded GIF/video, we recommend modifying the original file using a free video editing software like iMovie or ClipChamp, then reimporting the modified version to the canvas using copy/paste or drag/drop to ensure retains original resolution.

❗ Reminder

Don't change the dimensions of the shape after uploading to the canvas. Sometimes the quality of the final video export may degrade relative to the original due to scaling limitations, particularly if the scaling is significant.
